Every child has a story yet to tell

With God All Things Are Possible

So often we are met at the door with hugs from smiling children and the precious words, “Mr. Vogel, Mrs. Vogel—I just love Good News Club! Can we have club every day?” I can’t tell you how exciting it is to watch elementary school kids running to line up so they can hear the good news of Jesus’ love.

When you take the time to ask questions, a child’s answers will amaze you. After listening to a child recite Bible verses word for word, week after week, I felt drawn to ask: “Where do you go to church?” The child bristled and said, “Oh, Mr. Vogel, you don’t understand--this is my church.” In a public school GNC, this child is learning to hide God’s Word in his heart.

One day, Beth gathered the children for club in the school lobby, as usual. Then she was stopped by the anxious principal who announced, “There will be no GNC next week in the gym or the library. There will be no GNC—period—for the rest of the school year. You need to contact the parents and inform them.”

The principal explained that the school needed the gym for an athletic program. Once all the gym equipment was set up, there would be no room left for the club.

But our God had strategically placed the gym teacher where she could overhear this conversation. She snapped to attention and approached the principal. The teacher later told Beth: “I want this club to continue to meet in the gym, and I’ve expressed that to the principal. I will set up and tear down during after hours, off the clock if necessary, so these children can continue to meet.”

We thank God for the changed hearts of teachers and staff at this school. We thank Him for the way they support this club as they see the changed lives of children in their school.

These children will become adults – what will they be like? Will they be men and women who will honor, love and serve God. Some of these may be future heros of the faith. Every child has a story yet to tell.
