It all started with a Good News Club

As Fonis stood to speak her eyes filled with tears of joy. She asked to sing the Wordless Book song she learned as a child …..

Some weeks ago I published a story about a pastor and his wife who were saved at a Good news Club in Ghana, Africa. At age six she had become a member of the Good News Club in the providence in Kotobabi in Accra Ghana. She was touched by the Lord and gave her life to Christ as the Good News Club leader shared the gospel. The late Alex Adolfo Koranteng did not realize at the moment this all took place in the heart of the little girl what ripples would flow out from this decision.

Fonis told me, “my teacher led me to the Lord and instilled in me the principle of service and total commitment to Christ.”

As she grew up and enrolled in the University of Ghana she became the music director on the campus.

She said as she began her University education “nothing could sway me to the left or the right of my walk with the Lord, because my little heart and mind had received the foundational truths in my Good News Club.

After she had completed her college education the Lord gave her the opportunity to relocate in the United States, where she met her husband Pastor Edward. They were married and God has blessed them with three beautiful children. They began church ministry at a church in the inner city.

They started their ministry felt the need to enhance their children’s ministries – Good News Club and Child Evangelism Fellowship echoed in her heart and they came to our office to see how they could get curriculum.

When I told them about the opportunity in the public elementary schools they got so excited and soon had a team trained. Now that the school requirements have been met we are thrilled to announce they are now teaching and leading a club in the school.

Fonis said, “I am excited and blessed to be able to have the opportunity to come full circle and now later in life be able to share God’s Word and help to shape these little lives.”

As she shared I couldn’t help think about the Good News Club teacher Alex celebrating and rejoicing with the angels as 15 children gave their hearts to Christ at their first Good News Club at the public elementary school
