The Sharp Needles Of Blooming Cactus As we made our way down the red rocks on beautiful May Day, Beth and I stopped to take in the majestic grandeur of the magnificent scenery. We both in perfect orchestrated timing began to sing "Oh Lord our Lord how majestic is all your name in all the earth." The weather was perfect and because of all the rain this year, the desert was in full bloom. The desert blooms dotted the prickly needles of the cactus and the little wild flowers danced in the wind like dancing ballerinas. As we stooped down we observed that among the flowers on the cactus, which were tucked in amongst the the sharp needles of the plant, was new growth with what looked to be needles. As we reached out to touch this new growth to our amazement we found the new growth was very soft and pliable, not hard and dangerous like the "adult version" We both had an "aha" moment. It was like God was showing us again the effects of time on a life. We thought about and shared together how children are "soft and pliable". So open and ready to hear and learn of Gods love. Like the new growth on these flowering cactus. With time and the torments of nature this new growth hardened and even became very unfriendly and even dangerous. It is so important to reach and teach our children while we can. Reach them now with the truths of Gods words and instill the Biblical values in their lives today. Next time you see a cactus with it many sharp quills and you observe it at a distance for fear of the repercussions of getting too close, think about the fact that this was once soft enough to touch and those sharp needles were once very pliable. Then think about a child, then think about a teenager. Ponder a young adult, finally focus on a mature adult. When do you think it might be the best time to lead that person to Christ?
