Leadership And Use of Time

Leadership and use of time. The time you just had is now gone, and now more is gone. Gone forever, never to be recaptured. There goes some more. Each of us has a specific amount of time allotted, and in that time there are bound to be major interruptions, challenges and trials, along with great moments of success, happiness and fulfillment. Time is the way we measure age. The past is different from our future. Recently I went to my eye doctor and he told me I needed two-focal transition glasses .. To see up close and then at a distance. As he spoke to me about my eyes, a thought crossed my mind; this is the story of life and time. The far distance still to be passed and the immediate in front of me now. A great description of time..

1. Are you a here and now person? 2. Do you chose to work or play? 3. Do you do your work because of your future or the future of someone else is dependent on it? 4. Are you trapped in your past?

The focus we take as leaders will greatly determine our use of this valuable resource of time. A leader needs to check his or her thoughts all the time. Is he or she thinking past present or future? Then the question to ask yourself is... are you thinking positively or negatively about your choice- past, present or future. There it goes -more time... Never to be recaptured

As a Christian I should see the use of my time as a steward. We often ask the question- how much time do I have left? The fact is God is timeless and sovereign; we on the other hand are confronted with the limitation of time. We live in temporal time but will live the eternal which is timeless. Time is something you can quantify, but the value of time is not in the amount of time spent, but how it is spent / invested. There are things that are urgent but not important. Then there are things that are important and not urgent. Spending time with my family is important but can become urgent if I perceive an immediate need. Example: school project, crying child, or crisis - suddenly the focus of time changes. Urgency drives your use of time. Deadlines and special opportune moments create urgency. There are windows of time that become great opportunities. In our ministry, it has been shown conclusively that most people accept Christ as their Savior and Lord before their 15th birthday (in fact some estimate the numbers to be as high as 83%). This creates urgency or should. As children grow into their teenage years they harden to the gospel. Their Worldview is pretty well established by age 13. Is it going to be a secular humanist worldview or Biblical worldview? Every moment counts as another child has a birthday today. I'm sure you have your own examples ...how much time has gone by since you read the first sentence of this blog, never again to be recaptured? Time is a precious gift. Timelessness (eternal life) is the gift of all gifts.
