Are American Children growing up in Feminine World? Children today have a 95% chance of having a female teacher. The National Educators Association recently reported that 2% of all teachers in grades three and below are males. In the churches today, most of the Sunday schools and daycares are manned by a female. The truth is we need men AND women to mentor our children. In colleges today the enrollment of girls over boys is very skewed. The enrollment is showing a significant larger percentage of girls enrolled than boys. Traditionally children and women go together. In today's church women often teach and God bless them for doing just that. But we might want to address a hard question; is the teaching that the women are providing more for girls... than boys? This is an important question, because the answer may be in the results we see in the church today. The boys feel left behind and leave the church, finding themselves as adults, sending their children and spouses but not attending themselves. This is a widening trend in many churches across America. As I speak in many different churches, I am able to observe much of the cultural change in churches today. It is evident the church is retaining the women and the elderly, but most churches are struggling to maintain their young men. Men bring a unique perspective to our children. It is not about whether one sex or the other is more capable or more talented. It is about modeling. Children today need to see Godly men with a passion for Christ and a love for His word. They need to know and see men who love and cherish their wives. They need to see men with priorities that honor God. Today's world is filled with dysfunctional families, many are fatherless. The research has conclusively shown this leads to consequences for the next generation. God fearing men can step in and fill the gap for these young lives, and nullify some of the consequences of fatherless homes. Men, you are best qualified to share what it means when we express the name God the Father or the Fathers love. Not long ago I shared the importance of men and children's ministry to a group of men. God touched the heart of the men in the audience. Now one of the Good News Clubs in one of America's public schools in manned and taught primarily by men. And these are not just any men - one of the men who teaches the club is a bodybuilder and though his muscles bulge his soft heart. He recognizes that the kids need to see how much he loves Jesus. Another is a successful business person and though he has a business, he wants the children to see how much he loves God and the priority he has placed on his life. He has taken and dedicated the time and effort out his very busy schedule. Another is a student and he to wants the children to see how much Jesus means to him and his desire to see each of the children he interfaces with grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior. Men, Stand up and be counted for righteousness sake. Perhaps there never has never been a time more important than today. The church needs "dudes" with character! The church (including the children's ministry) and the mission fields need MEN and women. The consequences of men not taking their God honoring role seriously will be extinction and a very female next generation.
