Teaching Your Children The Power Of Prayer

“The God Can” is out on the table at the Good News Club. The children are learning to pray (to talk to God). Prayer request sheets have been passed out as the teacher shares how God can and does answer prayer. Many of these children have never prayed and the whole concept is foreign to them. Some don’t know to stop talking while others are praying. They know nothing about reverence and they have no understanding of the request “let’s pray.” They do not understand that they are communicating with the "all and high God". . There are a multitude of misconceptions and misunderstandings about Prayer, especially in the eyes of children. Here are just few considerations about children and Prayer. There is little understanding of who God is or that he is the creator of all. He is everywhere and available to speak with them right now. A mighty big concept, even for adults! He enjoys listening to your prayers and is actually looking forward to talking with you. God is all powerful, all knowing and all loving. God loves to hear us praise Him and thank Him. We need to preach praise before requests. Praise should be foundational in their prayer life. Seeking God’s forgiveness for the sins we commit. Children need to see how John 1:9 fits into the model for Prayer. As Christian parents and volunteers in Good News Clubs, we should teach the importance of confessing sin and seeking God’s forgiveness. Along with this, we must teach children the additional need of forgiving others. Teach children that God does not want us to carry the weight of sin on our backs. This only brings shame and guilt into their lives. God promises to lift the weight off their back if they will unload those burdens by asking God to take their burden and place it on His shoulder. The perfect and sinless God. Teach children the reality of a personal relationship with Jesus. Teach them it is all about being before doing. The children need to know God’s Holy Spirit lives in them and will help them with the words. Help them navigate through the wish list prayers. Make Prayer essential in your life and model that for your children. “It has been said the no great work in literature or science was ever wrought by a man who did not love solitude. We may lay it down as elemental principle of religion, that no large growth in holiness was ever gained by one who did not take time to be often, and long, alone with God”. - The Still Hour 😔😊
