Taking Inventory Of Our Assets

There is so much talent and gifting we overlook. The people we connect with everyday are all precious assets with God given talent, insights and expertise. We must learn how to mine these gifted assets. A great leader learns how to effectively delve deep into the life experiences of the many who follow. I have watched as some leaders overlook talent and struggle to make a vertical move. As leaders we are to look for strengths to attach to the vision and dream of the organization and or the leader. If done properly, you will be amazed at the latent talent and strengths that lie below the surface, just waiting to bubble to the top. Leaders understand that the organization will flourish as the weak areas are plugged with talents and gifts of others. A great leader understands his or hers personal skills, as well as their shortcomings, and seeks the talent, which is often right around them, just waiting to be used. Tap into the gifts and talents today. The leaders need to remember as they move ahead that everyone has some sort of strength or talent, in varying degree. Some are common, some are more distinct and unique, and some are developed through the ups and downs of life and honed over time. The key is to be always on the lookout for these people and what they have to offer to the team and to you personally as the leader of the team. One thing's for sure; as a team “ matches up” to the same values and vision the leader heartfully conveys to the followers, the team becomes a working team - attached at the hip of the leader. The followers will step up without even a physical nudge to give them of themselves in ways the team or leader today cannot fathom. It boils down to the vision being caught then the gift, talent or strength finds its way to the surface to be an asset to be redeemed. I have been blessed to have have been tapped to lead a number of organizations. I have found talented designers, artists, management skilled personal, computer and website developers, skilled writers, fundraising experts, gifted speakers, financial whiz’s and much more in the ranks of those recruited to be a part of the team. I unfortunately have also witnessed organizations THAT ALWAYS SEEM TO STRUGGLE because they do not know how to mine for talent, skills or strengths. I have agonized as I have observed leadership overlook some of the most time-tested talent, even those with “extreme abilities” and actually place them on the sideline or never recognize the diamonds God has brought to them. There is an adage that makes the difference between a great organization and a good organization. “YOU HAVE NOT BECAUSE YOU ASK NOT.” In Bible-believing Church organizations it is even more apparent sometimes. People are coming to church and joining the family of God - our family. Often times we know too little of the people who make up this amazing family. They sit in the pews and listen to the sermons, but we often fail to mine their talents, skills and the strengths for the most important work of all time and eternity.. The work of the kingdom of God. Look around you and see the divine mosaic God is putting together for you. The assets needed to succeed are all around you. Once they connect, believe and buy-into the vision you as a leader are vividly proclaiming. Romans 12:4-8. It says, “ For just as we have many members in one body, and the members do not have the same function. So in Christ we, though many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance to your faith, if it is serving then serve; if it is teaching then teach; If it is encouraging then give encouragement; If it is giving then give generously; If it is to lead, do it diligently; If it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.” NIV
