Encouragement-Dirty Delegation

Control is a very touchy subject in leadership, something that is difficult for some leaders. A great delegator is caring. Delegation is the conversion from "me" to "we". Dirty delegating is delegating with strings attached. Micro managers are driving potentially great talent out of the business or ministry. Some people need more help and more encouragement; others less. Some need supervision rather than less oversight. Some are highly skilled, others less talented. It is your responsibility to identify these people and their traits and work with them differently. Why is it so hard to delegate? Fear... Feeling you may be losing value in the organization. Thinking you can only do it and do it the best. Lack of time to train. Blinded (you don’t understand what you have in front of you). The best leaders have learned two great things; Legacy and delegation. Jesus was the master delegator and legacy. Acts 1:11-

"Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”

Then he left the work to us and promised a helper with that delegation - His Spirit. Finishing and leaving well involves delegation. Who can replace me? Your greatest act of leadership might be grooming your successor. What an adjustment for anybody! Change is never easy, possible loss of identity, and the struggle to replace yourself and mentor another leadership unit. Pray for your successor. Failure to focus on the future and opportunities is all about delegation. Pass on your passion to others and let them move ahead and encourage appropriate change. Beth and I have literally seen a work of ministry once very successful, come to screeching stop. We have asked ourselves why? Why does something start strong an end in a whimper? Much of what we see is delegating without authority to complete the job, or not delegating much or any thing at all. The issue in much of what we see is no thought of legacy. Many times the baton has not been passed on. God is at work and we must see the picture much bigger than any one person. Hopefully, you are surrounding yourself with those who are smarter and better than you. A. Great delegation comes from established expectations. B. Will you let me do it? Freedom to do it my way. C. Will you help me? Will you encourage me? D. Will you let me know how I am doing? A great leader learns that if the vision is to be accomplished, it is not about control, but rather the success of the vision and mission.
